Below is a layout of our annual events that are on the calendar for our band families.
Semester 1
Home Football Games: The marching band performs at all home football games. Students perform during pre-game, halftime, and during quarters 1,2,4.
OneTroy Banded Together: All 8th grade band students from Baker, Larson, and Smith get to see what it is like being in the marching band for the night! Students prepare a combined performance and perform in the stands.
Home Marching Band Competition: Local bands attend a marching band competition hosted by TABB in our stadium.
Marching Band Competitions: The marching band performs at various Saturday competitions at various locations.
Parades: The marching band performs at the homecoming parade, two Halloween parades in the Troy Union and Wass subdivisions, and the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade when accepted.
Winter Concert: The winter concert features the jazz, campus, concert, and symphonic bands. Admission is free.
Craft Show: TABB hosts a craft show at Athens that features over 200 crafters housed in both gyms. This is the largest fundraiser for the band program!
Semester 2
Solo & Ensemble: All band students are encouraged to prepare an event for Solo & Ensemble. It is the best way to improve your musical abilities during the year.
All State: After being selected from an audition in October, students that are chosen to the All State Band/Orchestra/Jazz Ensemble perform at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids in January.
Pistons Game: All members of the band program are invited to perform on the court at Little Caesars Arena and watch the Pistons game (Pending Schedule).
Cliff Bells: When invited, the Athens Jazz Ensemble performs as the warm-up act for the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra at the world-renowned Cliff Bells jazz club in Detroit.
WGI Show: TABB hosts a Winterguard International Regional competition for winter guard and winter percussion ensembles inside the Athens gym. This is a great opportunity to see many World-Class performing groups from the Mid-West.
MCGC Show: TABB hosts a Michigan Color Guard Circuit competition for winter guard, percussion, and wind ensembles inside the Athens gym. Members from our three winterguard groups perform, as do a few students in percussion and wind ensembles.
District Band Festival: The concert and symphonic bands prepare three selections and sight reading for district band festival. Festival is located at a local high school.
High School Auditions: Students audition/re-audition each year for ensembles after festival concludes.
State S&E: Students that earned a first division rating at District S&E are eligible to perform at State S&E. State S&E is more challenging than district, as members in grades 10-12 must perform sight reading and scales to earn the top proficiency.
All City Concerts: Our symphonic band performs at two All City Concerts in the Athens gym. This is a great way to see the progression from 5th grade, to middle school, to our top ensemble.
Jazz Dinner Dance: The jazz ensemble performs at a local banquet hall while you eat dinner, dance, and bid on silent auction items while the students perform over 3 hours of music they have prepared for you.
Mattress Sale: The Troy Athens Band Boosters organize a one day mattress sale in May.
Spring Concert: The spring concert features the jazz, campus, concert, and symphonic bands. In addition, senior recognition and awards ceremony takes place during the concert. Admission is free.
Commencement: The symphonic band performs every other year at Athens commencement. (2020, 2022, 2024, etc.)
