Officially, we have chosen to travel band, orchestra, and choir to Disney World in January 22-25, 2021. We are still waiting on the new district calendar, but we are fairly certain those will be the dates for the trip. Students will likely miss one day of school. We will be FLYING round-trip.
We are in need of an approximate head count for the trip so we can plan accordingly. Originally, we were going to have 50 students sign up at a time, but because we are opening the trip up to band, orchestra, and choir students in grades 8, 9, 10, and 11 (current 8th graders will be freshmen during this trip) we determined that signing 50 up at a time was not practical. For this reason, we are asking ALL FAMILIES to take this survey, even if they are NOT PLANNING to go on the trip. The families that do not need to take the survey are parents of seniors. At this time, we are asking for parents/guardians ONLY to fill out the survey, as to not get double the data from parents and students. Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TL7KX35.
I have attached 2 documents, one is the official itinerary and the other is a pamphlet of inclusions that will be given to all students this week.
Current 8th graders ARE invited to go on this trip, as they will be freshmen when we leave. This information is being communicated to them as best as we can, through Schoology and Powerschools emails. We are aware that this will be one of two trips they will take as high schoolers, and we want to give them fair and equal opportunity to sign up. However we are only doing the survey with our current parents, as that should give us a good projection on trip attendance.
I know this information will come with a TON of questions, and I am more than happy to answer them. We will discuss the Disney trip at all TABB meetings to provide updates on fundraising, itinerary items, and other important decisions. Feel free to join us and ask questions! To get started, here are some frequently asked questions by the students:
Is the trip location official? Yes. We are not looking at any other destinations for 2021.
Are the dates official? More or less. This is a great time to travel, and was widely popular on the survey we sent to all families last spring. It allows for cheaper airfare, flexible performance times, less crowded parks, and the ability for families to plan accordingly.
How can we make sure we're getting the lowest trip cost? The directors have already ensured we are getting the lowest cost by eliminating certain "extra" items and trading them for more cost-efficient items, such as using cheaper busing to get our students to and from the airport.
What about fundraising? The directors are also formulating a plan for at least 3 large-scale fundraisers that will solely go to our Disney trip. All three programs (band, orchestra, choir) will be participating in these fundraisers, and it will help with trip cost significantly.
