The Troy Athens Bands will be traveling to New Orleans (NOLA) from February 15-20, 2019. NOLA is one of the world’s most fascinating cities - a truly unique melting pot of culture, food and music! Some of the highlights of the trip will include:
Visit Jackson Square and nearby attractions including The Arsenal and Cabildo Museums
Tour the New Orleans Jazz Museum and National WWII Museum
Explore and take a ghost tour of the Old French Quarter
View the bayou’s exotic plants and wildlife on the Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour
Visit the studio where iconic Mardi Gras floats and sculptures are created
Enjoy an evening dinner cruise aboard the Steamboat Natchez
Attend a music clinic at Tulane University
Visit the Aubudon Zoo and renowned Aquarium of the Americas
This trip will be a fun and educational opportunity for all students in the Athens band program. Students will travel from Michigan to Louisiana via motor coach over Athens’ mid-winter recess, departing Athens late afternoon on Friday, February 15 and returning the late afternoon of Wednesday, February 20. Students will miss one day of school on Wednesday, February 20.
The estimated cost of the trip is $850 for both students and chaperones. This cost includes hotel, transportation, 3 breakfasts, 4 dinners and all activities. Breakfasts and dinners while in transit and all lunches will be on your own. Trip insurance will be available at a cost of $45.
A SignUp Genius has been open since Wednesday, August 15 and there are still a few spots remaining. The first 50 students and 4 adult chaperones to sign up, which will completely fill the 1st bus, will be guaranteed a spot on the trip once your deposit is received. Your $100 deposit must be received to confirm your spot. Please pay via check made out to TABB and place in the TABB box in the band room, or mail it to our assistant treasurer at: TABB, c/o Dawn Bittner, 3682 Kings Point, Troy, MI 48083.
Beyond 50 students, there is a minimum of 19 additional students and two additional chaperones to open a second bus to maintain a lower cost for all travelers. There will be a waitlist section on the SignUp Genius after the 1st 50 students and 4 chaperones to see if we can reach the minimum numbers required for a second bus. You will be notified if a second bus is opened or if a spot opens on the first bus and will be instructed to remit your deposit at that time.
Once our trip is confirmed, payment coupons for the remaining balance will be emailed to you. The expected payment schedule will be spread out over 4 months with monthly payments of $187.50 due on 9/24, 10/22, 11/19 & 12/15.
